After another great breakfast we headed out today in a different direction, on foot. We walked and walked and walked, got lost but were quite comfortable with that. The lack of tuk tuks and taxis told us what we already knew, we were away from the tourist hot spots, and happy with that. We saw what we took as ordinary life in Bangkok, many residential areas, students going to and from school, little shops and street stands where locals sat and had their lunch.
We also found the next university course for the eternal student. And what a setting to learn in!

Rediscovering the metropolis, we had a wander in the Lalai Sap Market and then its converse, the Silom shopping complex – useful, to us, for cooling down, but not what we came all this way for.
Our preference, where possible, is to get around on foot. Alternatively, travelling by tuk tuk was fun. Always agree the fare beforehand and, commonly, we found, the price quoted can be halved, without any bad feeling. Hang on to your hat!

Another option, one that we enjoyed using, is the sky-train.

Key info: a little bit of maths

3 x 620ml bottles of the Thai beer Leo = 170 Thai Baht (£ 3.93) , at local 7-Eleven
1 x 330ml bottle in restaurant, Chinatown = 90 Thai Baht (£2.08)
1 x 330ml bottle in hotel = 470 Thai Baht (£10.87)
Conversion as per today’s exchange rate
So, at 7-Eleven, 1 x 330ml bottle = 70p
Ratio 7-Eleven:Chinatown:Hotel = 70:208:1087
Where you sit and enjoy a beer is important, of course, but worth considering, nonetheless!
This evening we headed for the Asiatique Waterfront. Lots of activity and great fun. For a Tuesday night, so very busy! Food not great but worth a visit.

Tomorrow, CAMBODIA, and Phnom Penh…
