Our experience of Phnom Penh airport in taking our internal flight was a positive one. We breezed through check-in and security in no more than 10-15 minutes. Again, immaculately clean, and good WiFi.

The flight to Siem Reap was billed as a 45 minute flight. In the event, we took off bang on time, 10:10, and had our luggage in hand by 10:55 the other end. We paid £76 per person for the flight.

We booked our places of stay and flights through Booking.com and Opodo for our 4 week adventure. Booking.com prompted us to book taxis to and from airports, through them, with them sourcing a local provider. This proved to be both easy and reasonable price wise. Drivers were cheerful, friendly and full of information about the locality. It also saved us the rigours of bartering on price. We discovered last year when in India that the price any one hotel would charge for transportation to the airport was nothing short of extortionate; sometimes many times more than you would pay on the street. The same is true here but not to such a degree. As an example, the hotel we stayed at were asking $35 for transit to Phnom Penh airport. Through Booking.com (arranged on-line) we paid $18. That $17 will pay for a good meal + a couple of beers for two people.

After decanting all our paraphernalia in our hotel, we jumped in a tuk tuk and headed for Market Street.

We instantly loved the Siem Reap town vibe. We sought refreshment in Elia Greek Kitchen, having homemade lemonade and a Greek coffee.

This evening we headed for ‘Pub Street’. It lived up to its name! The area is dominated by a sprawling night market and is well worth a look.

And tomorrow, something quite different… Angkor Wat! Keenly anticipated, and on a 🚴‍♀️ 🚴🏻‍♂️ !
