Another travel day. We had breakfast out, mopped up on bits and pieces shopping wise: gifts, Hanoi bookmark, Hanoi fridge magnet. You know the kind of thing.
It being Saturday morning, Hanoi was busy. I say this with tongue planted firmly in cheek, for Hanoi was in a constant state of business throughout the 4 days of our stay.
We found ourselves asking the same question we had done in India, especially Mumbai, last year: Where have they all come from, and where are they all going?
This was the state of play close by our hotel, near Hoan Kiem Lake, at 22:03 last night.
Sat, now, in Hanoi Airport, looking forward to spending 4 days in Ho Chi Minh City, we are wondering what the similarities and what the differences between the two famous and ancient – sometime combatant, foe – cities might be.
After 3 hiccups on flight time: 14:35 became 15:30, became 17:10, we finally lifted off and the pilot found Ho Chi Minh City (I prefer Saigon, don’t you?) at precisely 19:20, as the main man predicted.

What we thought would be a relatively simple trip was elongated to the point that we absolutely had no qualms about taking the edge off the day by heading for our hotel sky bar to sink a few.

The ‘sky deck’ on the tallest of the buildings in shot is something that Lukas (Ha Long Bay) told us was a must do, although, he confessed, he was unable to do! Essentially, it’s a reinforced glass (one would hope) platform. Well, after imbibing a little courage as we sat looking at it, we both boldly pledged to go where no Lukas Placek (the one and only) has gone before. Watch this space! If you are reading this Lukas 🐓, sorry 🤣 We love you really!
